Prof Fritz Jaenicke - professional profile
Gynaecology and Breast Cancer
For patients with advanced ovarian cancer the Clinic achieves higher rates of complete tumor excision and thus significantly longer survival than the average of all German hospitals.
Specialists of different departments work closely together and all diagnostic and treatment options are under one roof. The specialists also participate in and design national and international treatment studies, which offer patients access to new and innovative treatment concepts.

Conservative surgery and breast reconstruction
Hamburg, Germany
Experienced specialists carry out more than 500 surgical interventions per year. In 70-80% of cases the breast can be preserved, whilst observing both the medically necessary safety margin and the optimal cosmetic approach. However if complete removal of the breast is unavoidable, modern methods for breast reconstruction are offered, especially through the use of the patient’s own tissue (autografting).

Physiotherapy starts the day after your surgery and facilitates speedy recovery. In addition to exercises and instructions regarding correct behaviour after surgery, the Breast Center offers post-operative lymphatic drainage.
The Center also offers other plastic surgeries such as breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast lifting.
Advanced ovarian cancer
Research focuses on the development and testing of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for breast and ovarian cancer. Comprehensive projects are concerned with metastasised tumor cells in the blood. It is supported by the European Union and awarded national and international prizes every year.
Center of research
The Breast Center is geared to national and international standards and as one of the best oncological centers in Germany it is supported by the German Cancer Society.
In breast cancer patients it is often sufficient to remove the sentinel lymph node. This is the first lymph node that filters the lymph fluid from around the tumor. If the doctors find that the sentinel lymph node is free from cancer cells, the underarm lymph nodes need not be removed. If removal becomes necessary, nerve-saving and vessel-preserving surgical techniques are used.
All gynaecological surgery is offered, from minimally invasive to radical and at the highest medical level.
All subspecialties, such as gynaecological oncology, surgical and conservative gynaecology, uro-gynaecology and endocrinology, are represented.
